A note from David

What a fantastic year it’s been at Sovereign Beverage Company!

As we stare down the barrel of 2023, we have plenty to celebrate. We’ve had our most successful year to date, selling almost 50,000 hectolitres. We were shortlisted in three prestigious awards, securing a ‘highly commended’ in the Global Business of the Year category at the BIBAs, and the team has grown to include a Sales Director, Operations Manager, and Senior Sales Manager.

Chris Holland will be joining us as Senior Sales Manager, having most recently worked at the drinks wholesaler Matthew Clark. Five-year SBC veteran Craig Johnstone has continued to climb the ranks with a promotion from Head of Sales to Sales Director, and Tom Fitzmaurice has been promoted to the newly created position of Operations Manager after eight years with us. Expanding the team is a huge achievement and one that I’m very proud of.

In other news, I’ve been suiting up in my lycra and helmet to train for The Truants Argentina Bike Ride in 2023 - the annual fundraising bike ride by The Truants Foundation for three UK-based children’s charities. I’ve booked my place, set up my Peloton, and am training (semi) regularly! If you want to support this worthy endeavour you can donate here.

Between our new team members, January’s Argentina trip and our company vision to hit 100,000HL by 2025, it’s going to be an exciting 12 months!

Spotlight on... Thatchers Gold

Thatchers Gold showcases the very best of what cider making is all about. Crafted at Somerset’s Myrtle Farm for generations, Gold is the flagship cider from the Thatchers family.

Crafted from a blend of Thatchers favourite apples, including Dabinett and Harry Masters Jersey, this smooth and golden cider sets the standard, and is classed as a real ‘cider drinkers cider’.

Thatchers Gold is available in 500ml cans, 500ml bottles, and 30L steel kegs.

Meet the team member...

Craig Johnstone, Sales Director

Craig first joined the company in 2018 as an Export Sales Manager, and has risen through the ranks to Head of Sales, before his most recent promotion to the position of Sales Director.

Craig manages a sales team of four, and is taking on a more strategic role as SBC looks to pursue further growth in overseas markets.

Outside of work, Craig loves travelling, having spent several years growing up in South-East Asia. He has two

children, and spends his Saturday mornings coaching his son’s football team.

Following SBC’s shortlisted position for International Company of the Year at the International Trade Awards, Business Insider ran an article on the event.

David was asked to share his expertise in becoming a fully remote business for London Daily News. You can read the full article and tips here.

Continuing with his advice on remote working, David has also been featured in European Business Review, discussing the challenges that SMEs face when going remote.
